ABOUT ABYI

Derek is an avid fisherman and occasionally races on other people’s sailboats.  He enjoys working on boats and has performed major restorations of several vessels, including two boats which he bought for salvage after they had been sunk.

 

As part of his continuing education, Derek attends regular education and training programs, and is the current Skipper for the Mid-Atlantic Mariners Club, which is an association of professionals involved in the marine insurance industry.  The following is a list of some of his training:

Derek occasionally gives presentations to yacht clubs and other boating organizations, including presentations on ABYC Standards compliance.  If you would like Derek to give a presentation to your organization, feel free to give him a call.

Derek Rhymes

Derek Rhymes is a NAMS Certified Marine Surveyor and a SAMS Accredited Marine Surveyor.  Most of his work focuses on yacht and small craft surveying in the Chesapeake Bay region.  This includes power and sailing recreational vessels,   as well as commercial passenger carrying vessels and workboats.

In addition to pre-purchase and insurance surveys, he investigates damage claims for several major insurance companies.

Prior to starting All Boat & Yacht Inspections, LLC, Derek apprenticed with Jack Hornor, who was a senior marine surveyor and a naval architect, and spent seven years working for Marine Survey & Design Company.

Derek has owned several cruising sailboats and has voyaged to the Caribbean, Bermuda and New England.
